Large women's lingerie, hand wash or machine wash?

Care of women's lingerie starts with washing, an essential step in preserving the quality of the materials. The golden rule? Prefer hand washing. This gentle method preserves delicate fibers such as lace, silk or microfiber fabrics, while avoiding excessive strain on elastics.

Hand wash lingerie

Soak your plus-size lingerie in cold or lukewarm (not hot!) water, using a mild detergent, preferably without perfume or harsh chemicals. Soak for a few minutes, then rub gently. Rinse thoroughly with clean water.

Machine washable

If you don't have time to wash by hand, use a washing bag specially designed to protect your pieces. Opt for a delicate program with cold water and avoid spinning too hard. Make sure you close the clips on your bra holders to prevent snagging.

Washing frequency: How often should you wash your women's bras?

While it's tempting to wash every item of underwear after each use, it's important not to put too much strain on them. Women's bras don't need to be washed after every wear. In general, it's advisable to wash them after 3 to 4 wears, alternating them with other garments to avoid premature use of elastics and fabric.

Drying: How to preserve shape and elasticity?

Drying is a crucial step in preserving the shape and integrity of your lingerie. It's imperative never to use a tumble dryer, as the heat can damage delicate fibers and alter the elasticity of your women's bras and other feminine lingerie. Tumble-drying can also distort cups and affect fabric texture.

Air-drying: After washing, lay your bodywear flat on a clean towel, preferably in the shade and in a well-ventilated area. Do not hang women's bras by the straps, as this can distort them. Let them dry naturally to avoid distortion.

Storage: How to store your plus-size lingerie?

The storage of your plus-size lingerie is just as important as its care. Proper storage ensures that your pieces remain in perfect condition and ready to wear.

Storage technique: Avoid pinching your bras excessively. To preserve their shape, store them flat, stacking the cups on top of each other, or better still, in dedicated dividers or drawers. If you must pinch, do so gently, without forcing the fabric. For lacy or delicate pieces, individual storage is ideal to avoid snagging.

Specific care: Caring for the delicate materials of your women's lingerie

Some materials require special care to maintain their shine and softness over the life of your lingerie.

White lingerie

White lingerie is particularly susceptible to yellowing and staining. To avoid this, wash your white pieces as soon as they are lightly sold, and avoid harsh detergents or those containing chlorine. Opt for a mild soap or a special lingerie detergent. Baking soda can also be used to revive whiteness.

Lingerie in lace or silk

These demanding materials require special care. Wash them by hand with a mild soap, avoiding excessive rubbing. If you must use the washing machine, place them in a laundry bag, on a delicate program. Avoid contact with perfumed products or strong chemicals, which can damage the lace and silk of your women's lingerie.

Signs of wear: When should you replace your parts?

Over time, lingerie pieces show signs of wear and tear. Sagging elastics, pulled threads or deformed cups are signs that it may be time to renew your garments. Don't wait until they become uncomfortable or ineffective. A bra with stretchy elastic loses its support and no longer provides optimum comfort.

The most heavily used pieces of plus-size women's lingerie, such as bras, can generally be replaced after 6 to 12 months, depending on how often they are used.

By following these care tips, you'll preserve the beauty and functionality of your favorite pieces of bodywear, while prolonging their life. At Almé, we believe in the importance of quality and care for each and every one of our creations. Take care of your pieces, and they'll make you even more elegant and confident every day.

FAQ

How do I choose between two sizes of underwear?

At Almé, every piece is designed to enhance every figure. Consult our size guide to find the perfect fit. Still in doubt? Choose the next size up for greater comfort and ease.

What underwear to wear under a shirt?

For a flowing shirt, choose a second-skin bra like the Romee Bra for an invisible effect. For a touch of femininity under a slightly open shirt, the Amalia Lace Bra offers the perfect balance of elegance and comfort.

What plus-size lingerie should I wear under my dress?

It all depends on the style! For a close-fitting dress, the Body Amy hugs the body with discretion. For a light dress, the Isadora Bra ensures support and invisibility under fine fabrics.

What's the difference between a bra and a brassiere?

The women's bra offers comfort and soft support without underwiring, ideal for a natural look. The bra, on the other hand, gives more structure to the bust with cups and underwiring. At Almé, the bra is the new signature of casual chic.
